Description:bilateral ingrown toenails
Comments:This 24-year-old girl had chronic ingrown toe nails with recurrent redness, swelling, tenderness, and drainage at the base of both great toe nails. She improved with partial nail removal and cauterization of the nail matrix followed by a 7 day course of oral cefadroxil 500mg twice daily. Ingrown toenails (unguis incarnatus) is a common nail problem of uncertain etiology. Various causes include tight fitting footwear, infection, improperly trimmed toenails, trauma, and hereditary malalignment of the nail matrix. The lateral aspect of the great toe is the most commonly involved.
