PAPULAR ACRODERMATITIS
  Category: infections and infestations
Body Site: knee   Age: 7 months
Contributor: Antonio Chuh, MD MRCP(UK)
Description: A seven-month-old girl was brought to consult us in June 2001 for skin lesions on her face and extremities. She was born full-term by lower segment Caesarean section. Birth weight was 3.5kg. Perinatal history and developmental history were unremarkable. Her immunisations were up to date and she had no severe adverse reaction to vaccination. She had not been receiving any vaccination in the month preceding the eruption. Examination revealed afebrile and well active girl with discrete flat-topped papules and papulovesicles on the cheeks and extensor surfaces of forearms, wrists, hands, buttocks, knees and feet. The trunk was entirely spared. Her mucous membranes were unaffected. She had no lymphadenopathy and no hepatosplenomegaly.
Comments: This 7-month-old girl developed asymptomatic edematous papules on the extensor surfaces of her arms and legs and scattered lesions on her face. She was well, and her physical examination was otherwise normal. The papules resolved without treatment 3 weeks later.
