Body Site: cheek / face
forehead
  Age: 35 years
Contributor: Eric Ehrsam, MD
Description: symmetric edematous red urticaria-like papules and plaques
Comments: A 35 year old woman developed a pruritic eruption of edematous red papules on the face. A skin biopsy showed deposits of mucinous material and a peripilar lymphohistiocytic infiltrate. This is a case of urticaria-like follicular mucinosis which should be distinguished from the other variants of follicular mucinosis. In urticaria-like follicular mucinosis there is no alopecia and the prognosis is good. Disease may be worsened by sun exposure. Crovato F. Dermatologica 1985; 170 (3): 133-5 Enjolras 0. She responded quickly and at her 6 month visit the mass was smaller and there had been a dramatic shift in color from bright red to purple and gray over much of the hemangioma.
