| Diagnosis: | LIPOMATOSIS, BENIGN SYMMETRIC | Category: | fat disorder | ||
| Body Site: | shoulder / arm | Age: | 48 years | ||
| Contributor: | Camillo Di Cicco, MD,PhD | ||||
| Description: | symmetric massive deposition of fat in neck upper trunk, and upper arms | ||||
| Comments: | This healthy 48 year old woman developed dramatic symmetric asymptomatic deposition of fat in her back, upper arms and neck. A complete physical examination, blood chemistries, lipid profile, thyroid function studies, and blood count were normal. The lower trunk, face, distal upper extremities, and legs were normal. Biopsy demonstrated normal fat. Benign symmetric lipomatosis is more common in men than woman, and most commonly involved the neck and upper arms. Howeverm the trunk and lower extremities may be preferentially involved. Although the deposition of adipose tissue may be gradual, it can occur over a period of a few months and is not known to disappear spontaneously. The cause is unknown, and laboratory studies are usually normal. | ||||

| Diagnosis: | LICHEN PLANUS / LICHEN PLANOPILARIS / GRAHAM-LITTLE SYNDROME / KERATOSIS PILARIS | Category: | hair disorders / atrophy / papulosquamous eruptions | ||
| Body Site: | scalp / neck | Age: | 55 years | ||
| Contributor: | Camillo Di Cicco, MD,PhD | ||||
| Description: | A rare case where are associated "Cicatricial alopecia and lichen planus follicularis". This particularly disease is named LASSUEUR PICCARDI GRAHAM LITTLE Syndrome. | ||||
| Comments: | This is a rare case of Graham-Little syndrome in which cicatricial (scarring) alopecia of the scalp is associated with widepsread keratosis pilaris particularly in the axillae and pubic area where scarring does not usually occur. The scarring in the scalp may be clinically indistinguishable from the end stage of other forms of scarring hair loss. | ||||

| Comments: | This 7 year old girl demonstrates the swirled hyperpigmentation on the trunk and extremities typical of incontinentia pigmenti. Shortly after birth she developed linear urticarial papules and blisters, and a skin biopsy showed eosinophilic spongiosis in the epidermis. She has no serious complications from her disorder and continues to grow and develop normally. | ||||

| Contributor: | Camillo Di Cicco, MD,PhD | ||||
| Description: | metastatic melanoma in left leg | ||||
| Comments: | Thermography allows the investigator to create a 3 dimensional image based on infrared emissions from tissue.
