DermAtlas: Histology - lymphoma
© 2001-2009, DermAtlas
Image Name: Anaplastic_Large_Cell_lymphoma_1_030822   File Type: jpg
Diagnosis: LYMPHOMA /
LYMPHOMA, T-CELL
  Category: neoplasm, malignant
Body Site: arm   Age: 78 years
Contributor: Benjamin Chong
Description: There is an atypical mononuclear cell infiltrate that extends into the subcutaneous fat. These cells, which have vesicular nuclei with prominent nucleoli, focally infiltrate the epidermis in a pattern of tagging along the dermal-epidermal junction as well as epidermotropism. Within the infiltrate here is a component of small lymphocyte-like cells. The findings were consistent with an anaplastic large cell lymphoma with vascular involvement.
Comments: This elderly man was evaluated for a 2 cm dome shaped nodule on the back of the right arm. The histologic findings were consistent with an anaplastic large cell lymphoma with vascular involvement.

DermAtlas: Histology - psoriasis
© 2001-2009, DermAtlas
Image Name: Psoriasis_1_030808   File Type: jpg
Diagnosis: PSORIASIS /
DRUG REACTION
  Category: papulosquamous eruptions /
drug reaction
Body Site: thigh   Age: 60 years
Contributor: Benjamin Chong
Description: The skin biopsy demonstrated epidermal hyperplasia in a psoriasiform pattern. Within the papillary dermis, there was a moderately intense perivascular and interstitial infiltrate comprised of lymphocytes with numerous eosinophils. Overlying parakeratotic scales and neutrophils in Munro microabscesses were also present. PAS staining for fungal organisms was negative.
Comments: A 60-year-old man developed multiple thick scaly plaques with some crusting scattered over his body. Although the cause of acute onset of psoriasis was unclear, it may have been triggered by initiation of a new antihypertensive medication.
