Diagnosis: HEMANGIOMA   Category: lumps & bumps (plaques, nodules, tumors) /
neonatal dermatology
Body Site: face / lip   Age: 9 months
Contributor: Sherry Arena, BS
Description: red plaques
Comments: At 9 months the hemangioma shows early signs of regression with a shift to gray and purple hues and flattening of many areas particularly the forehead and periorbital lesion. Note that her left eye is completely unobstructed. She was tapered to 0.75 mg/kg/d oral prednisolone without recurrence or airway symptoms.

Diagnosis: HEMANGIOMA   Category: lumps & bumps (plaques, nodules, tumors)
Body Site: face / lip   Age: 5 months
Contributor: Sherry Arena, BS
Description: hemangiomas on face
Comments: She has responded to oral steroids with marked decrease in the thickness of the periorbital component of the hemangioma, but stridor evidenced by hoarse cry recurred intermittently especially with upper respiratory infections

DermAtlas: FACE - hemangioma
© 2001-2009, DermAtlas
Image Name: arena2   File Type: jpg
Diagnosis: HEMANGIOMA   Category: lumps & bumps (plaques, nodules, tumors) /
neonatal dermatology
Body Site: face / lip   Age: 3 weeks
Contributor: Sherry Arena, BS
Description: red plaques
Comments: She developed thickening of her hemangiomas resulting in partial obstruction of the left eye. Oral steroids were started at a dose of 3 mg/kg/day given in 2 divided doses with a good response. However, as the steroid dose was tapered she developed stridor, and the dose was increased again with resolution of airway symptoms. Laryngoscopy revealed an extensive circumferential hemangioma involving the larynx, posterior pharynx, and upper trachea.
