Description: multiple symmetric 1-3 mm brown papules
Comments: This healthy adolescent with tuberous sclerosis complained of irritated papules on her face and nose since elementary school and several birthmarks on her forehead, trunk, and extremities. Multiple angiofibromas on her face and small areas in the collagenomas on her forehead, left arm, and chest were treated with the Q-switched alexandrite laser at 14 J/cm2, 10 Hz, and spot size 2 mm. cooling device at level 3. Further treatment was scheduled pending the results of the test spots.

Description: symmetric red minimally scaly and edematous patches with subtle central atrophy and overlying telangiectasias
Comments: This 11-year-old boy was evaluated for red scaly patches and plaques on his eye lids, knees, elbows, and bony prominences of his hands. He complained of fatigue and had dramatic proximal muscle weakness. Magnetic resonance imaging of his legs demonstrated muscle inflammation.

Comments: This 15-month-old boy had sparse hair, generalized follicular plugging with erythema on his cheeks, subtle stippling of his palms and soles, sensorineural deafness, and chronic conjunctivitis. Genetic analysis revealed a mutation in GJB2, the gene encoding for gap junction protein connexin 26.

Description: firm partially comprressible blue-purple 2.5 X 1.25 cm subcutaneous mass before therapy
Comments: This healthy 3-month-old boy developed a rapidly growing blue mass on the right lower eye lid at 8 weeks of age. It had the clinical characteristics of a hemangioma, and ultrasound confirmed this. He started on propranolol 0.5 mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses. One day later the dose was incresed to 1 mg/kg/day, and the next day it was increased to 2 mg/kg/day. Images 1-3 were taken before initiating therap, 4,5 were taken 24 hours afer initiation of the propranolol, and images 7-9 were taken 2 days later after completing 24 hours at 2 mg/kg/day.
