Image Name: wart_laser_1_060225   File Type: jpg
Diagnosis: WART, COMMON /

  Category: infections and infestations /
treatment /
treatment, carbon dioxide laser
Body Site: hand   Age: 16 years
Contributor: Bernard Cohen, MD
Description: series of images demonstrating the role of carbon dioxide laer in the treatment of finger warts
Comments: This healthy adolescent insisted on trying carbon dioxide laser treatment for finger warts that has persisted for over 5 years. The top figure demonstrates the char which developed during the laser procedure. The bottom left shows healing red patches 4 weeks later, and the last figure demonstrates the hands 3 months later. Carbon dioxide laser is extremely destructive, and the risk of recurrence is high, but at times the results are excellent.

DermAtlas: ARM - tattoo
© 2001-2009, DermAtlas
Image Name: tattoo_1_060225   File Type: jpg
Diagnosis: TATTOO   Category: treatment, carbon dioxide laser /
treatment /
Iatrogenic disorders, child abuse,
Body Site: arm   Age: 18 years
Contributor: Bernard Cohen, MD
Description: series of images demonstrating course following carbon dioxide laser treatment of tattoo
Comments: This healthy adolescent had a tattoo on his right arm which was treated with carbon dioxide laser ablation. Figure 1 shows the tattoo before treatment, figure 2 immediately after treatment, figure 3 2 weeks after treatment, and figure 4 3 months later. Although the Q-switched lasers have superceded the carbon dioxide laser in the treatment of tattoos because of the minimal risk of scarring of these lasers compared with CO2, there may still be a place for CO2 laser for selected patients.

Immediately after surgery the wound bed was irradiated with superficial x-ray. The wound is well healed and repigmenting in this image taken 6 weeks after surgery. The scar was injected with 0.2 cc's of triamcinilone 40 mg/cc.
