Description: 3 cm annular red scaly plaque
Comments: This healthy pre-schooler developed an expanding pink plaque on his nose 3 months ago. The lesion improved somewhat with topical emollients, antifungal, and steroid cream but recurred when the topical agents were discontinued. Although a potassium hydroxide preparation was negative, he was given oral griseofulvin for 2 weeks, and the eruption cleared.

Comments: A 35 year-old hotel cook with long standing tinea infection of the groin was evaluated for an itchy red plaque on the left cheek and pinna for 3 weeks. A potassium hydroxide preparation demonstrated hyphae typical of tinea corporis.

Comments: This adolescent boy with Human immunodeficiency virus infection developed an asymptomatic ring of firm violaceous papules in the right axilla. A skin biopsy showed granulomatous inflammation with changes typical of Herpes simplex virus infection, and the viral culture was positive for Herpes simplex virus type I.

Comments: This 5-year-old girl developed a slightly itchy nodule on her foot, which slowly spread while resolving in the middle. It disappeared spontaneously after a little more than a year.
