Comments: This 27-year-old woman complained of chronic hair thinning along the frontal scalp. She did keep her hair tightly plaided and was noted to also have some hair thinning along the perimeter of her scalp as well as along the parts.

Description: tightly pulled braids with pustules and hair thinning along the parts
Comments: This 2-year-old girl developed pustules along the parts created by braids in her scalp. Loosening of the braids and gentle shampooing usually relieves this superficial Staphylococcal folliculitis also known impetigo of Bockhart. Note the traction alopecia as well. These children may also be prone to tinea capitis which should be excluded when local measures fail to result in clearing. This case was prepared by Bradley Burns a third year medical student at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine.
