| Diagnosis: | FIBROUS PAPULE / ANGIOFIBROMA | Category: | neoplasm, fibrohistiocytic / neoplasm, benign | ||
| Body Site: | nose | Age: | 29 years | ||
| Contributor: | Greg Hosler, MD, PhD | ||||
| Description: | A close up of the lesion shows an unremarkable epidermis. The stroma is fibrotic with scattered stellate fibroblasts. Ectatic vessels are characteristic. | ||||
| Comments: | This lesion was submitted from the nose of a 29-year-old woman. Fibrous papules are common lesions, usually on the nose or cheek. Some authors feel these represent senescent nevi. The histology is of an angiofibroma, with dilated vessels and stellate fibroblasts. The fibrosis often replaces solar elastosis. | ||||

| Diagnosis: | ANGIOFIBROMA / TUBEROUS SCLEROSIS / FIBROUS PAPULE | Category: | lumps & bumps (plaques, nodules, tumors) / genodermatosis/genetic disorder | ||
| Body Site: | cheek / nose face | Age: | 13 years | ||
| Contributor: | Bernard Cohen, MD | ||||
| Description: | light brown 2-4 mm smooth topped dome shaped papules | ||||
| Comments: | This healthy adolescent was concerned about gradually increasing numbers of fibrotic papules on his cheeks which were mistaken for comedones. A skin biopsy of the largest papule on the side of his nose showed the typical changes of an angiofibroma. There was no family history of tuberous sclerosis. An evaluation for this autosomal dominant genodermatosis was planned. | ||||
