The patient complains of posterolateral heel pain, particularly with passive dorsiflexion or resisted plantar flexion. A posterior heel prominence, local swelling and tenderness at the medial or lateral aspect of the Achilles tendon insertion is indicative of retrocalcaneal bursitis.
