Comments: This 41-year-old obese man complained of itchy brown patches in the groin and armpits. When examined with a Wood light they showed coral red fluorescence.

Description: confluent reddish brown minimally scaly intertriginous patches
Comments: A 40-year-old diabetic man developed well-defined erythematous itchy patches in the groin and axillae. Although the eruption did not improve with topical antifungal medicaitons, it cleared with topical and oral erythromycin. Erythrasma characteristically involves the skin creases and is caused by Corynebacterium minutissimum.

The eruption resolved with oral erythromycin 500 mg daily for ten days and topical fusidic acid 2 percent cream. Corynebacterium minutissimum, a member of the normal skin flora, is the causative agent of erythrasma and the predisposing factors include excessive sweating, delicate cutaneous barrier, obesity, diabetes mellitus, and immunocompromised states.

Description: scaly macerated purple plaque with slightly hyperpigmented border
Comments: This 24 year old man had chronic minimally itchy symmetric red scaly macerated plaques in the axillae and groin creases. They worsened in the summer and improved somewhat in the winter. Wood light examination revealed a coral red fluorescence typical of erythrasma. The plaques cleared with a 2 week course of oral tetracycline.
