| Diagnosis: | CICATRICIAL PEMPHIGOID / CICATRICIAL PEMPHIGOID, LOCALIZED (BRUNSTING-PERRY TYPE) | Category: | vesiculobullous eruptions, immunobullous / vesiculobullous eruptions | ||
| Body Site: | cheek / neck | Age: | 72 years | ||
| Contributor: | Bernard Cohen, MD | ||||
| Description: | red atrophic irregularly shaped plaque with central erosion | ||||
| Comments: | This elderly man had a 5 month history of recurrent blistering with erosions, crusts, and atrophy restricted to the sides of the cheeks and neck. He had no mucous membrane involvement and a complete medican examination including a full skin examination was otherwise normal. A skin biopsy showed a healing erosion with some fibrosis. Direct immunofluorescence demonstrated IgG along the basement membrane zone, and indirect immunofluorescence revealed IgG on the roof of the blister most consistent with bullous pemphigoid or cicatricial pemphigoid. | ||||
