| Comments: | This 45-year-old woman with diabetes developed a painful red plaque on her left calf. The area enlarged and blistered at the inferior advancing border. She had no history of trauma or the application of topical medications. A Gram stain showed gram positive cocci. She had a complete but slow response to a parenteral antibiotic(cefotaxim) which was administered in the hospital. After initial improvement she finished with oral antibiotics at home. | ||||

| Comments: | This 31-year-old man developed a rapidly progressive erythema and swelling of the right cheek and nose shortly after tonsilitis was noted and treated with oral penecillin and azithromycin. The image on the right was taken 18 hours after the image on the left and demonstrates worsening of the erythema and edema. 48 hours after starting parenteral clindamycin, the patient defervesced, and the symptoms began to subside. However, he developed a unilateral facial palsy. | ||||

| Comments: | This 84-year-old man with a history of myelodysplasia developed a progressive painful red patch with a central crust on his right arm several days after abrading his arm when he fell on the carpet. Initially he improved slowly on parenteral cefazolin followed by oral cephalexin. Blood cultures were negative and he remained clinically well. | ||||
