Comments: This healthy 22-year-old woman developed slowly progressive plaques on her shins when she was 6 years old. A glucose tolerance test was normal, and she denied a family history of diabetes mellitus. Topical steroids produced minimal improvement.

Comments: This 42-year-old woman developed an asymptomatic yellowish-brown plaque on her right leg 6 months earlier. She was healthy with no personal history of diabetes although several older relatives had type II adult onset diabetes.

Description: 4 cm fibrotic plaque with overlying epidermal atrophy and 4 mm punch biopsy
Comments: This plaque continued to expand slowly 6 months after it appeared on the shin of a 42 year old nondiabetic woman. A biopsy showed altered collagen and granulomatous inflammation typical of necrobiosis lipoidica.

Comments: This 54 year old insulin dependent diabetic developed a yellow annular plaque with overlying telangiectasias and scale on her shin. She was actually well controlled and had no other complications of diabetes.
