| Comments: | A 10 year old girl was evaluated in the emergency room for large, soft mucous-containing swelling at the base of the tongue that had been growing slowly over 2-3 months. A ranula was identified by pathology at surgery. These cysts arise from one of the major salivary glands in the floor of the mouth. They should be excised and the severed duct exteriorized. | ||||
