Description: indurated red-purple plaque with central ulcer and serous drainage
Comments: This 16-year-old girl developed high fever, arthralgias, and myalgias associated with an asymptomatic ulcerated palque on her chin. She did have a history of exposure to cows, sheep, aned goats.Anthrax once known as woolsorter's disease, is an acute infection and sometimes fatal disease that begins with rapidly necrosing plaques and nodules with serious constitutional symptomes.The disease is pruduced by a gram positive organisum Bacillus Anthracis . Human infection generally results from exposure to infected animals or handling of hides or other animal products.

Description: crusted plaque with central eschar and surrounding erythema and scale
Comments: A 55-year-old man with a fever for 10 days developed a crusted plaqaue on his left flank. There was a black eschar with surrounding erythema and small vesicles. Two weeks earlier his grandson developed a similar lesion associated with high fever, sepsis, seizures and death.

Comments: A 27 year old Iranian farmer developed edema, vesiculation, and crusting of the left cheek followed by a dry black eshcar. The lesion healed with scarring after a 2 week course of oral antibiotics.

Comments: A 45 year old Iranian farm worker developed a non-tender swelling of the upper lip followed by blistering and necrosis of the overlying skin and formation of a black eschar. He responded quickly to oral antibiotics.

Comments: This 15 year old girl developed cutaneous anthrax of the left lower eyelid. At the time of diagnosis he had massive edema of the face which rapidly subsided with high dose penecillin. The non-tender periocular lesion progressed from a bulla to a necrotic black eschar despite a 2 week course of antibiotics. The eschar separated leaving a scar with minimal ectropion but no corneal scarring.
