| Diagnosis: | SCARLATINIFORM ERUPTION / DESQUAMATION | Category: | reactive erythema | ||
| Body Site: | toe / foot / finger | Age: | 7 years | ||
| Contributor: | Will Sorey, MD | ||||
| Description: | Seven year old with documnted streptococcal phyringitis. He developed peeling of his fingers and toes on day two of illness. case prepared by Locke Bryan, M-3 at the Univ of Mississippi school of medicine. | ||||
| Comments: | This 7-year-old boy with culture proven streptococcal pharyngitis developed peeling of the fingers and toes 2 days after he was diagnosed. Desquamation usually occurs during the convalescent phase of scarlet fever; the presumption in patients like this young man is that streptococcal toxins early in the course of the illness produce subtle injury to the skin and result in desquamation indistinguishable from that of typical scarlet fever. The case was prepared by third medical student at the University of Mississippi Locke Bryan. | ||||
