Notice: The purpose of this WWW site is to enable health care professionals, parents, and patients to access high quality dermatology images for teaching purposes. Several articles have been published regarding Dermatlas:

This website was originally designed by Bernard A. Cohen, M.D.(Hopkins Profile), Division of Pediatric Dermatology and Christoph U. Lehmann, M.D., Division of Pediatrics and Biomedical Informatics at Vanderbilt University, with technical assistance of Michael Cohen and redesigned by Michael Cohen for educational use by health care professionals, parents and patients. DermAtlas does not accept advertisement. Please help us keep this site user-friendly by sending us your comments and suggestions. Please submit your digital images for consideration of inclusion in DermAtlas (download a Johns Hopkins or a generic consent form). We also accept your suggestions for links.

Dermatlas and its Editorial Board subscribe to the the highest standards of ethics. By submiting images, contributors confirm that they own the copyright of the images and that they have obtained consent from the patients displayed to publish these images. Any violation of these rules may result in a ban from further publication in Dermatlas and/or removal of previously submitted images as decided by the Dermatlas Editorial Board on a case by case basis.

Confidentiality of data relating to individual patients and visitors to a medical/health Web site, including their identity, is respected by this Web site. Contributors are solely responsible for obtaining consent. DermAtlas has made a Johns Hopkins and a generic consent form available to be printed from the web for your use. DermAtlas, its editors and their institutions are not responsible for the failure of a contributor to obtain consent. By submitting an image to this collection contributors agree that
1. they own the copyright to the image
2. the copyright to the image is transferred to the DermAtlas and will be held jointly by the contributor and DermAtlas
3. consent was obtained from the patient or his/her legal guardian.

Materials presented on these pages is copyrighted JOINTLY by DermAtlas and the contributing author. Images obtained as work product by Government employees are exempt from DermAtlas' Copyright rules and only subject to Government Copyright rules. All images are attributed to the contributing authors. Titles, comments and other fields may be edited by our editors.

This includes, but is not limited to, translations into foreign languages, mass archival as on a CD_ROM and inclusion in commercially published compilations (books). The DermAtlas Board does NOT permit the use of DermAtlas Images on other web servers (Dermatlas allows embedding of thumbnails.

On rare occasions, the Editorial Board of the DermAtlas will consent to replication of images in scientific and educational publications. Consent usually does not exceed a total of five images and is bound to the conditions that the copyright for the images remains solely with the DermAtlas and that the source of the image including the URL is published in conjunction with the images. Requests for replication from professional organizations and universities are favored over requests from individual and commercial entities.
Any requests for image use must be directed to Bernard Cohen, MD, who will present requests to the DermAtlas Board.

Privacy Policy

Dermatlas strives to protect the privacy of all users. In the past, Dermatlas has been abused and the Dermatlas Editorial Board was forced to add protection to prevent undesired use. In order to manage Pornography-seeking behavior, searches conducted on dermatlas are stored in a databas with the user's IP address. An automatic detection alogorithm identifies inappropriate use and blocks these IP addresses automatically. Users, whose IP address is blocked, may request a password. Please see our paper on this issue.
Dermatlas also uses cookies for the quiz. Site traffic is determined by use of Google Analytics.

Neither stored searches, nor IP addresses and cookies are used for any other task than outlined above. All data can only be accessed by Dr. Cohen or Michael Cohen. Data is not shared to any outside party. Any personal information submitted by users (such as email addresses, medical information, or names) are deleted within 90 days. Information displayed only includes age as a personal health Information. This site honors the privacy rules as defined in HIPAA by the US congress.

Material submitted by users of this web site undergoes an editorial process, personal identifiers (except age) are removed. Images are posted as submitted. No alterations to reduce identifiable features are made. Users may request to have their images and information removed by contacting Dr. Cohen or Michael Cohen.
