Comments

This vellus hair cyst was an isolated lesion on a 34-year-old Asian male, and likely idiopathic. When multiple, they can be associated with eruptive vellus hair cysts, an autosomal dominant disorder. The chest and abdomen are common places for them. Histologically, they are distinctive, as they often have multiple vellus hairs within the cyst lumen, as in this case. Sometimes follicles are present in the cyst wall, supporting their follicular infundibulum derivation.

Description

At higher power of the same lesion, the cyst lining is thin and squamous. Within the lumen there are abundant thin vellus hairs, caught in cross-section.
