A young woman complained of dry lusterless hair and, specifically, "split ends." Examination of multiple hair shafts demonstrated splitting of the hair shaft along the long axis giving a frayed appearance. This finding results from recurrent mechanical, thermal, and chemical trauma to the the hair and improves with a switch to gentle hair grooming.
