Comments

A 60-year-old man was evaluated for a slowly growing soft tissue mass of the right upper back. Excisional biopsy revealed a well circumscribed, thinly encapsulated 2.5 cm fatty mass. Most spindle cell lipomas arise on the upper back, posterior shoulder, and posterior neck. Recurrence following complete excision is rare.

Description

In this intermediate-power hematoxylin and eosin stained section, fascicles of undifferentiated spindle cells are present amongst mature adipocytes and hyaline collagen bundles typical of a spindle cell lipoma.
