Comments

This 36-year-old woman felt a sudden stinging sensation in the scalp during a trip to the country. Examination revealed an engorged wood tick attached to her scalp with a surrounding inflammatory reaction. The tick was removed by skin punch excision, and the wound healed without complications. Ticks can be safely removed by grasping the body of the tick with a forceps and applying persistent pressure. Punch excision is an effective technique especially when the tick has been embedded for a long period of time.
