This 9-year-old boy developed a brown nodule on the back of his right leg. The histologic findings were characteristic of xanthogranuloma.

Description

The epidermis is attenuated by an underlying dense dermal aggregate of lymphocytes and scattered Touton giant cells. The Touton cells exhibit a wreath of nuclei with a peripheral rim of vacuolated cytoplasm.
