Comments

These histologic findings in the setting of a renal failure and renal dialysis and the presence of diffuse of diffuse fibrosis of the extremities are characteristic of nephrogenic fibrosing dermopathy.

Description

On low power the biopsy has a square configuration consistent with a fibrosing disorder. The dermis is thickened with haphazardly arranged collagen bundles associated with increased numbers of fibroblasts. In the mid to deep dermis there is a diffuse interstitial mononuclear infilitrate. Widening of the interlobular septa in the subcutaneous fat is also noted.
