Comments

An 11-week-old boy developed a rapidly enlarging purple tumor on left chest with thrombocytopenia and consumptive coagulopathy. At birth he had a quarter-sized, tan-colored patch that began to grow quickly at 10 weeks of age. There was a color change to dark red/purplish blue and the lesion became hard and tender to palpation. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated features of a hemangioma and the lesion shrunk quickly with high dose intravenous corticosteroids (Solumedrol 2mg/kg/day).
