This 12 year old boy with longstanding finger warts developed tender swelling of the skin around the middle right finger nail. The paronychial area was crusted with purulent drainage for several days. Warm compresses helped to relieve the pain. He prpbably had an acute paronychia superimposed on chronic infection resulting in transverse grooves in the nail.
