Comments

Violaceous nodules developed on the back of hands and knees in an otherwise healthy man. A skin biopsy shwed changes typical of erythema elevatum diutinum (EED). EED is considered to be a chronic leukocytoklastic vasculitis. In EED multiple orange to yellow papules and plaques develop over the joints. Systemic complications are rare and most patients are asymptomatic. EED has been associated with SLE, IgA monoclonal gammopathy, HIV, and streptococcal infections. Dapsone is the treatment of choice.
