Comments

This healthy 61-year-old woman had an asymptomatic exophytic mass in the left posterior buccal vestibule for 4 months. A biopsy showed changes typical of a low grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma. This neoplasm is the most common malignant salivary gland neoplasm which arises most commonly in the parotic gland. They may also arise within the minor salivary glands on the palate, lower lip, floor of the mouth, tongue, and retromolar pad. Low grade tumors such as the lesion in this patient have a good prognosis andrarely recur after local excision.
