These changes are typical of gout and are confirmed by polaroscopy which reveals birefringent crystals.

Description

Large nodular aggregates of pale amphophilic material focally containing brown needle-shaped crystals are seen in the deep reticular dermis and subcutaneous fat. Aggregates are surrounded by histiocytes and multinucleated giant cells. The overlying reticular derpis, papillary dermis, and epidermis are unremarkable.
