Comments

This lesion is from the scalp of a 76-year-old man. It is a good example of an acantholytic squamous cell carcinoma, a more aggressive subtype of squamous cell carcinoma.

Description

At higher power, one can appreciate the squamous characteristics as well as the acantholysis. The nuclei are pleomorphic and hyperchromatic. One cystic space contains small, rounded, densely eosinophilic cells with intercellular bridge remnants.
