This 8-month-old girl was evaluated for a history of seizures. A complete skin examination revealed a congenital hypopigmented ash leaf macule on the right upper back. Imaging studies of the brain showed tumors typical of tuberous sclerosis.

Description

This 8-month-old female child was admitted with history of seizures. Cutaneous examination revealed a well-defined elongated macule over the back. According to the parents this patch was present from birth. A diagnosis of ashy/white leafy macules of Bournville's disease was made. Imaging of skull confirmed tuberous sclerosis. This case is an example of white ashy macules being the earliest and often the only cutaneous sign of epiloia.
