A 15 year old boy developed a multicolored hairy tongue with hypertrophy of the filiform papillae on the dorsal surface. Black hairy tongue ( lingua villosa nigra) is well known. Rarely hairy tongue may be brown, white, green, pink, or any of a variety of colors depending on the triggering factors ( eg. colored mouthwashes, candies).
