Comments

This 40-year-old man had a 5 year history of neck swelling near the angle of the mandible anterior to the sternocleidomastoid muscle. These histologic findings were typical of a branchial cleft cyst.

Description

Panel A shows the multilocular cyst. Panel B shows the columnar type of epithelial lining the cyst with lymphoid aggregates in one area. Panels C and D show pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium. There is no history of fever or injury. Histologically the cystic lesion had a lining of pseudostratified ciliated columnar type of epithelium with a few lymphoid aggregates in the wall. Features are consistent with branchial cleft cyst.
