Comments

A 45-year old woman complained of a lump in her right breast for 6 months. Her nipple was retracted, and she had axillary lymphadenopathy. Fine needle aspirate cytology revealed pleomorphic ductal cells present in clusters and also in discohesion having pleomorphic nuclei and moderate quantities of cytoplasm. There were some tumor giant cells. Cytology is consistent with ductal carcinoma of the breast.

Description

Panel-A Shows retracted nipple and lump in the lower inner quadrant of the breast. Panel-B shows fine needle aspirate cytology smear composed of pleomorphic cells with moderate amounts of cytoplasm (Giemsa stain, 450x). Panel-C shows a section from the tumor with large round to polygonal cells arranged in cords and trabacular fashion associated with desmoplasia (H&E stain, 200 X). Panel-D shows large islands of metastatic deposits in the axillary lymphnode (H&E stain, 200x).
