Comments

Thyis 55-year-old man had a 5 month history of an ulcerated plaque at the base of the tongue. He was a chronic smoker and beetle nut chewer since his teens. Local examination revealed an ulcer involving the base of the tongue with leucoplakia of the surrounding mucosa. Right cervical lymph nodes were also enlarged. Fine needle aspirate cytology of the enlarged nodes showed squamous cell carcinoma, and biopsy of the ulcerated plaque showed well differentiated squamous cell carcinoma.
