Comments

This 60-year-old man developed symmetric, pruritic, dry, scaly and curvilinearly cracked skin on pretibial areas with a history of winter exacerbations for the last several years. Asteatotic dermatitis commonly affects the elderly with decreased sebaceous and sweat gland activity, patients on antiandrogen therapy, and people using degreasing agents and bathing without replacing natural skin emolients.Transepidermal absorption of allergens and irritants is increased as the epidermis is damaged increasing the risk of allergic or irritant contact dermatitis.
