These are typical examples of sarcoidal (non-caseating, tightly formed) granulomas. Infectious etiologies, i.e. fungal and mycobacterial, are in the histologic differential diagnosis and therefore it is prudent to perform special stains for these entities. In this case, fungal stains (PAS/light green) and mycobacterial stains (Kinyoun's AFB) were negative.

Description

Higher power demonstrates well-demarcated, tightly formed non-caseating granulomas. Scattered multinucleated giant cells are present.
