Comments

This healthy 7-year-old girl developed asymptomatic scaling peeling feet during the winter when she wore tennis shoes during the day to school and went barefeet at night. Sweaty sock syndrome probably represents an irritant dermatitis which results from periods when the palms and/or soles are wet alternating from periods of drying. The subsequent swelling and shrinkage of the stratum corneum produces the cracking and peeling characteristic of sweaty sock syndrome. Note the sparing of the web spaces which helps to exclude tinea pedis.
