A healthy 24 year old man was admitted to the intensive care unit after a grand mal seizure. He had a 3 week history of back pain, dark urine, fever and generalized petechiae. He was profoundly anemic with a platelet count of 7000. After 6 weeks of aggressive therapy with plasma exchanges and repeated boluses of vincristine, he recovered without complications.
