This 49-year-old African-American woman had a warty lesion on her left upper abdomen since birth. Accessory nipples can present anywhere on the nipple line, and some have modest secretory function, as in this case. The histology is variable, but may show glandular and ductular components or just smooth muscle and fibrosis.

Description

Histologic sections of skin show epidermal acanthosis, papillomatosis, and hyperkeratosis. In the deep dermis, there is a collection of smooth muscle fibers as well as a primitive lactiferous duct.
