This 74-year-old woman developed gradual discoloration of her forehead over a course of 2 months. Primary angiosarcoma typically presents on the head and neck of the elderly, men more often than women. These lesions are difficult to resect and prognosis is poor. Some cases are poorly differentiated and require immunohistochemical analysis to make the correct diagnosis, as in this case.

Description

Immunohistochemical staining for CD31 is diffuse and strong, confirming the vascular nature of the lesion. Stains for Factor 8 and CD34 were also positive (not shown).
