A 12 year old girl with ataxia-telangiectasia, associated IgM gammopathy, fever, and failure to thrive developed a solitary firm 1 cm violaceous nodule beneath her left ear. A scraping yielded no fluid, but a skin biopsy showed changes typical of viral infection. A viral culture for Herpes simplex was negative. The nodule healed with parenteral acyclovir.
