This 5 cm asymptomatic hyperpigmented plaque became studded with increasing numbers of pustules and draining sinuses with a seropurulent discharge. A culture of the discharge revealed growth of Mycobacterium chelonae. She was treated with rifampicin (rifamycin, rifampin) 450mg and sulfamethoxazole 800 mg, trimethorpim 160 mg daily for four months, and the plaque healed with some residual scarring.

Description

A small nodular eruption on the right thigh of this 32-year-old woman gradually turned into a painless abscess that occasionally discharged seropurulent material through multiple openings. A culture of the discharge revealed growth of Mycobacterium chelonae.
