Comments

Most of these tumors are thought to be congenital, although they may not become apparent until later childhood or adolescence. Dermoid cysts probably represent a forme fruste of teratoma, but structures from all 3 germ layers are not usually present. The cyst wall commonly contains one or more dermal appendages including sebaceous glands, hair follicles, or eccrine glands.

Description

The lining of the cyst at the top of the image shows an orthokeratinized squamous epithelium with a prominent granular cell layer. The cyst wall is composed of fibrous connective tissue containing sebaceous glands.
