Comments

Digital mucus cysts may have a lining but often do not. The ones with lining are thought to have a synovial lining. Some lesions have been shown to communicate with an adjacent joint space. In my experience, the majority of these lesions do not have an identifiable lining, often resembling a dermal mucinosis. These will be positive for mucin stains.

Description

A higher power view of the cystic wall shows a thick fibrous band lined by an attenuated layer, with nuclei poking into the lumen. The lumen contains blue hazy material.
