Comments

This is a very typical example of an epidermoid cyst in this 79-year-old man. It is often presents on the face, neck or trunk. We use the term epidermoid cyst as it can be difficult to determine if the cyst arose from epidermal implantation or a dilated follicular infundibulum.

Description

Histologic sections of skin show a cystic lesion with a central punctum, or connection to the overlying epidermis. The cystic cavity contains abundant flaky lamellar keratin. The cyst lining appears attenuated and bland.
