Comments

This healthy 4-year-old boy had a portwine stain involving his left ear and the surrounding parietal scalp. The left ear was somewhat hypertrophied, but no other abnormalities were present. His mother had a similar congenital vascular malformation involving her left ear, nearby parietal scalp and neck. Both mother and son had a few other small (less than 1 cm) portwine stains scattered at other sites on the trunk and extremities. Although many vascular malformations appear to be sporadic some, as in this family, are inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern.
