This heatlhy 5-year-old girl developed recurrent herpes simplex virus infection of the right 4 toe associated with mild tenderness. She was treated with oral valacyclolvir, and the eruption resolved in 10 days. Her primary infection was associated with more dramatic edema, erythema, lymphangitis, and tenderness.
